When Elmo Aardvark finally emerged from the legal limbo which had kept him out of the public's eye for half a century, millions of fans the world over raised their voices in a collective huzzah. The International Animated Film Society (ASIFA-Hollywood) promptly voted to bestow a special award upon the legendary character and his producers. The Annie Award given for Elmo Aardvark is the only Annie ever presented for the production of the best series in any electronic medium (ed: first award given for electronic medium). This is notable not only for the singularity and scope of such an honor, but for the fact that just about the only animation categories this sweeping award doesn't seem to cover are the flip-book (where Elmo Aardvark actually began his career) and the zoetrope (which is the inspiration for the design of the Annie Award itself).

Now as the world eagerly awaits Mr. aardvark's next animated antics, we can all enjoy this new collection of sonic gems from-and inspired by-the Annie Award-winning series.
